The two years research work executed in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region
of
Ghana, showed social challenges such as teenage pregnancy, single mothers both teenagers
and
mainstream, school dropout due to non-payment of fees and poor school engagement,
children
idling about aimlessly, children engaging in Galamsey (illegal mining) operations and
above all
low income households and people living in abject poverty.
The passion of most parents is to educate their wards however possible for them to be
the agents
of change, bringing a paradigm shift in their family, communities and the nation at
large.
We cannot disregard the oil exploration that has begun in this region and its immediate
and
future impacts both positive and negative on the indigenes closer to the coastline and
the
exploration communities.
An educated and well developed youth is an Asset for her District and the Region, this
will make
indigenes of the region more suitable and be in the best position to take advantage of
any
opportunities that will arise and help solve the challenges coupled with the development
currently ongoing in the districts.
Apart from the usual teaching and learning framework, the students are involved in
advocacy
programs, Agricultural projects, internships, embark on field trips and excursions, this
we belief
will help expose them to the challenges and opportunities available in this 21st century
thereby
contributing to their holistic development.
This project is the first of its kind in the region and proves to be scalable and will
be replicated in
other parts of the Region with special emphasis on the coastal and the deprived
communities in
the Region.
This project is in memory of the late Captain Ibrahim Geraldo de Lima, whose dream it
was to
live in a world where people have equal opportunities and live in a very sustainable
manner that brings peace to Man and to Mother Earth.
